The MegaRAID storage adapters and the HBAs, based on the SAS3616W, SAS3516, SAS3508, SAS3416, or SAS3408 Tri-mode controller, are high-performance PCIe-to-SATA/SAS/PCIe (Tri-Mode) storage adapters. Broadcom Tri-Mode SerDes technology enables operation of SAS, SATA, or PCIe (NVMe) storage devices in a single drive bay. A single controller can operate in all three modes concurrently: SAS, SATA, or PCIe/NVMe.The Tri-Mode storage adapters provide the following storage interface data transfer rates: SAS data transfer rates of 12Gb/s, 6Gb/s, and 3Gb/s per lane SATA transfer rates at 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s per lane PCIe (NVMe) data transfer rates of 8 GT/s, 5 GT/s, and 2.5 GT/s per lane The adapters negotiate between the speeds and the protocols to recognize and concurrently interface with these three storage devices types.
